The Varpu pattern depicts blueberry branches and berries. The ornate foliage is sketched by hand in ink. PaaPii patterns often feature Finnish themes – blueberries, being in the forest, and everyman's rights are at the heart of Finnish identity.
Twisted twigs in the shadows of the old-growth forest.
Bearing its berries persistently, unbroken.
Wild, honest blueberry stems.
You fiddle with them, fingertips turning blue.
You can't hide your discovery, the blueberries,
they play, sparkling at the corners of your mouth.
